Street photography is a really fun way to capture little moments or great moments and candid views of how people live and affect their surroundings.  From graffiti'd walls to people going about their day-to-day life, photographing these moments in urbanized spaces makes this an interesting genre that has grown in popularity as cities have become all-important hubs of human activity.  Urban exploration or "urbex" is a blossoming junction of art photography and landscape portrayals which allow us to see how life in the concrete jungle impacts us as a species and allows us to see people in new lights.  This burgeoning field of photography is exciting, gritty, edgy, and streets-smart; but it also shows us the story of life in action, where people go about their ordinary lives with the extraordinary ability to change our relationship with the natural world.

While I grew up on a farm, I wondered if venturing in search of new urbex shots would be a disadvantage for me.  But I found that I pay extra close attention to the urban experience - I soak up each detail and can see without blinders the glaring differences between country life and city life because of the discrepancies between the two experiences.  What is extra special about urban exploration is stumbling upon a hidden gem in a city, like a place untouched, or a gathering place or underbelly of the throbing pulse of a busy city.  Finding a secret greenspace, a favouite local hang-out joint, or enjoying how everyday people communicate with each other as they go about their lives makes this genre very appealing to shoot, and it is ever-changing.
